Rane Seventy-Two
The Seventy-Two is the two-channel Serato DJ Pro mixer Rane unveiled at the US DMC finals in August 2017 and put in stores in April 2018, one of the first Rane DJ products of the inMusic era. Its centrepiece is a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen that shows Serato waveforms and handles track browsing, customisation and X/Y effects control. Around it sit 16 velocity-sensitive Akai Professional MPC-style pads, eight per deck, dual FLEX FX engines with die-cast aluminium paddles, two mic inputs and a footswitch input. The original uses three tension-adjustable MAG THREE faders. Two USB ports allow back-to-back laptop changeovers, USB-A ports accept the Rane Twelve motorised controller, and connecting the mixer unlocks Serato DJ Pro and Serato DVS. In August 2020 the Seventy-Two MKII replaced it with MAG FOUR faders and an external crossfader tension control, and Rane said original owners would get the software changes through a firmware update and could buy MAG FOUR faders. Compared with the Seventy it adds the touchscreen and footswitch input, and compared with the TTM-57SL it runs current Serato DJ Pro. It suits Serato battle and club DJs who want waveforms on the mixer.

Only two complete original Seventy-Twos turned up once MKII units and accessories were set aside, so the $1,500–1,625 band is a thin read, not a market price; browse the full search before you decide. Ask whether the faders are the original MAG THREE or MAG FOUR upgrades, and for a video of the whole touchscreen including the corners, all 16 pads triggering, and each USB port unlocking Serato DJ Pro and DVS. The better of the two is about $1,469 delivered with Best Offer from a 100% seller. Skip the zero-feedback seller asking about $1,654.

Check what comes with a used Seventy-Two: power cable, USB cable if it has a sound card, and a decksaver or case if it travels. Contact cleaner helps with noisy pots; worn faders are a parts job.
