DJM-S9
Pioneer DJ DJM-S9
The DJM-S9 was Pioneer DJ’s first two-channel battle mixer built for Serato DJ, announced in August 2015. Its headline feature is the Magvel Fader Pro, a contactless magnetic crossfader with adjustable feel, curve, reverse and cut-lag settings, supplied with fader bumpers in three materials. Each side has eight multi-coloured Performance Pads for hot cues, rolls, slicer and loops, plus six Beat FX buttons, six Serato FX buttons and two large FX levers. Two built-in USB sound cards and a top-mounted input switch let two DJs change over without unplugging. Serato DJ Pro works plug-and-play with DVS, and Pioneer DJ’s product page now also lists rekordbox DVS compatibility with a Core plan or above. DJ TechTools’ review of its successor notes that the S9’s pad modes are linked across both sides rather than independent, and mentions reports of paint rubbing off and of the Magvel fader breaking on some units, while also calling the fader one of the big reasons for the S9’s success. The DJM-S11 replaced it in 2020, and Pioneer DJ now lists the S9 as an archived product. It suits a scratch DJ who wants a proven Serato mixer and can live without the S11’s touch screen.

- Typical eBay ask (Oct 3, 2026)
- $1,050–$1,600 used
- Ask for a close-up video of the Magvel Fader Pro doing fast cuts, since DJ TechTools mentions reports of S9 faders breaking.
- Check photos of the top panel around the crossfader for worn paint, which reviewers say can rub off.
- Test all 16 Performance Pads and both FX levers, checking that every pad lights and triggers.
- Connect a laptop to each of the two USB ports and confirm Serato DJ Pro recognises the mixer on both.
- Check the curve, reverse and feel adjustments on the crossfader and ask whether the spare fader bumpers are included.
- Test the mic input, the booth output and both headphone jacks.
- Confirm the mixer is on the latest firmware from Pioneer DJ’s support site and that your current Serato DJ Pro or rekordbox version still supports the DJM-S9.
Buying guide
OCT 3, 2026Which one to buy · from Oct 3, 2026 listings
36 DJM-S9s are listed, none for parts, and most ask $1,050–1,600 delivered. Ask for a close-up video of the Magvel Fader Pro doing fast cuts and photos of the paint around the crossfader, since reviewers mention broken faders and worn paint on some units, and check that both USB ports work with your Serato DJ Pro or rekordbox version. Two 100% sellers list working units at about $1,127 and $1,195 delivered, the second with its power cable. Avoid a 92.9% seller, a '1pcs' listing at about $2,000 whose title three sellers share, and a $2,728 ask with no reason given.

Cables and a case
Check what comes with a used DJM-S9: power cable, USB cable if it has a sound card, and a decksaver or case if it travels. Contact cleaner helps with noisy pots; worn faders are a parts job.
