Denon DJ has been owned since April 2014 by inMusic, which bought Denon DJ, Denon Professional and Marantz Professional from D&M Holdings. The same group owns Numark, Rane and Engine DJ, so the brands share a lot of software. Denon DJ’s modern identity comes from the Prime series, launched at NAMM in January 2017 with the SC5000 Prime media player, the X1800 Prime mixer and the VL12 Prime turntable. The players run Engine OS, analyze music on board and can play two tracks at once from a single unit. The SC6000 Prime players and X1850 Prime mixer followed in 2020 and remain the brand’s booth gear, while its site now leads with all-in-one standalone systems such as the Prime 4 G2, Prime Go+ and SC Live 4. For used buyers, the draw is a laptop-free, streaming-capable setup built on Engine DJ rather than rekordbox.
