Rane is an American audio company founded in 1981 in Mukilteo, Washington, by former Phase Linear staff, and it started out making products for small live bands before becoming known for equalizers, crossovers and other pro audio processors. In DJ circles it is known for two-channel scratch mixers such as the TTM 56 and for its partnership with Serato: Scratch Live, which appeared in 2004, ran only with Rane hardware, and the 2006 TTM 57SL put that interface inside a mixer. In July 2016 inMusic, whose brands include Denon DJ, Numark and Akai Professional, announced it was acquiring Rane. The Seventy-Two, unveiled in 2017, the Seventy of 2020 and the Seventy-Two MKII of 2020 are products of that era. For used buyers the main divide is software: the newer mixers unlock current Serato DJ Pro, while the oldest Scratch Live hardware depends on legacy software.
