Numark was founded in Edison, New Jersey, in 1971 by Harry and Robert Kotovsky, and it is credited with the first DJ mixer with a built-in sampler, the DM1775. In 1992 Jack O’Donnell bought Numark’s assets, and he went on to found inMusic, now based in Cumberland, Rhode Island, which also owns Denon DJ, Rane and Akai Professional. Modern Numark is best known for DJ controllers. The Mixtrack line is its entry-level Serato range, the larger NS6 and NS7 four-channel Serato controllers now sit on its legacy list, and the Mixstream Pro family runs the same Engine DJ operating system as Denon DJ’s standalone players, with built-in Wi-Fi streaming. Used Numark gear is plentiful, and the main things to check are jog wheels, faders and whether current software still supports older models.
