SC5000 Prime
Denon DJ SC5000 Prime
The SC5000 Prime launched Denon DJ’s Prime series at the NAMM show in January 2017, alongside the X1800 Prime mixer and the VL12 Prime turntable. It is built around a 7-inch multi-touch screen and an 8-inch capacitive metal jog wheel with a small color display in its center, and it plays from three USB ports and an SD card rather than discs. Its headline feature is dual-layer playback: one player can run two tracks at once, each on its own output, so a pair can feed four mixer channels. It runs Denon’s Engine OS and analyzes music on board, and Denon DJ lists Wi-Fi plus an Ethernet link port for streaming from Beatport LINK, Beatsource LINK, SoundCloud Go+ and TIDAL and for networking up to four players. It can also work as a controller for Serato DJ Pro and VirtualDJ. The SC6000 Prime that followed in 2020 added a 10.1-inch screen, a bigger jog wheel and an internal drive bay, and Digital DJ Tips described the SC5000 as the smaller, cheaper alternative. It no longer appears among the current players on Denon DJ’s site but is still listed as Engine DJ compatible.

- Confirm the unit is an SC5000 and not the motorized SC5000M, which has a vinyl-topped platter.
- Ask for a video of the 7-inch touchscreen responding to taps and swipes in every corner.
- Turn the 8-inch jog wheel slowly and quickly and check that the center display and on-screen playhead track it.
- Test all three USB ports and the SD slot with media prepared in Engine DJ Desktop.
- Play a track on each layer at once and confirm both RCA output pairs carry audio.
- Update to the latest Engine DJ firmware from Denon DJ and confirm the SC5000 Prime still appears on Engine DJ’s compatible-hardware list.
- Sign in to a streaming service over Wi-Fi or Ethernet to prove the network hardware works.
- Press each of the eight pads and the play and cue buttons, and move the pitch fader, to find dead spots.
Buying guide
OCT 3, 2026Which one to buy · from Oct 3, 2026 listings
eBay showed 20 SC5000 Primes, but this snapshot caught only two, both about $1,070 delivered, so the $1,050–1,075 band is a thin read; browse the full search before deciding what's fair. Confirm the unit is an SC5000 and not the motorized SC5000M, and ask for a video of the touchscreen in every corner, the jog wheel with its center display tracking, all three USB ports and the SD slot, and a track on each layer playing out of both RCA pairs. Update to the latest Engine DJ firmware and check the SC5000 Prime is still on Engine DJ's compatible list. Both listings add $174 of shipping, so make your offer with that in mind.

Our take
$5 more than the 'mint' unit with the same $174 shipping, and no condition stated; offer under it rather than at the ask.

Media, cables and a case
A used SC5000 Prime usually arrives without the extras. Budget for reliable USB drives or SD cards for your exported library, a LAN cable if you link players, and a case or dust cover if it travels.
