Pioneer DJ PLX-1000
The PLX-1000 is Pioneer DJ’s professional direct-drive turntable, launched in July 2014 and still in the current range. It follows the long-established DJ turntable layout, and Digital DJ Tips notes that any Technics-style headshell and stylus fits it just as it fits a Technics SL-1200. Pioneer quotes a starting torque of 4.5 kg·cm or more and a start time of 0.3 seconds to 33⅓ rpm, from a quartz-lock servo direct drive with a three-phase brushless DC motor. The pitch control switches between ±8%, ±16% and ±50%, and a reset button returns it to zero. Unlike older Technics decks, the power, phono and ground cables are detachable, and the outputs use gold-plated RCA jacks. The S-shaped tonearm is rubber-lined to reduce feedback, and a die-cast zinc chassis with damping material at the base helps isolate vibration. It plays at 33⅓ and 45 rpm and comes without a cartridge. A limited gold PLX-1000-N followed in 2015. Choose it over the PLX-500 for the much higher torque, the three pitch ranges and the heavier build (13.1 kg against 10.7 kg).
