CDJ-2000
Pioneer DJ CDJ-2000
The original CDJ-2000 was introduced on 17 September 2009, together with the CDJ-900, as the replacement for the CDJ-1000MK3, and it was replaced by the CDJ-2000NXS at the end of 2012. It plays music from CDs, DVDs, USB storage and SD cards, and it was built to work with rekordbox track preparation, so cue points, loops and beat grids set on a computer travel with the music. Pioneer highlighted a 6.1-inch full-colour display, the Needle Search strip for jumping to any point in a track, an illuminated jog wheel, and Pro DJ Link, which lets up to four players on a LAN share the music and database on a single USB device or SD card. It also offered HID and MIDI control over USB for DVS software. Compared with the nexus models it lacks four-deck Beat Sync, Slip Mode and smartphone playback. That makes it the budget way into the CDJ-2000 layout for DJs who play from prepared USB sticks or CDs.

- Typical eBay ask (Oct 3, 2026)
- $775–$1,100 used
- Confirm the model label reads CDJ-2000 rather than CDJ-2000NXS, since the two look similar in photos.
- Check rekordbox compatibility before buying, because the original CDJ-2000 does not appear on AlphaTheta’s current rekordbox USB-export compatibility list, which names the CDJ-2000NXS and later players.
- Ask for a video that loads a CD and plays a USB stick prepared in rekordbox, showing the waveform and saved cue points.
- Test the SD slot and the Needle Search strip if you plan to use them.
- Check the jog wheel, play and cue buttons and pitch fader for wear, sticking or crackle.
- Ask the seller to show the firmware version on screen, and update to the latest release on the Pioneer DJ or AlphaTheta support site (version 4.33 was posted in February 2015).
- If you plan to link players, ask for a Pro DJ Link demo over LAN with a second unit.
Buying guide
OCT 3, 2026Which one to buy · from Oct 3, 2026 listings
474 results come up for the original CDJ-2000, one for parts, and complete players mostly ask $775–1,100 delivered. Check rekordbox compatibility first: the original CDJ-2000 isn't on AlphaTheta's current rekordbox USB-export list, which starts at the CDJ-2000NXS, so ask for a video playing a rekordbox-prepared USB stick with its waveform and cue points, plus a CD loading. The best fixed-price buy is about $793 delivered with a case from a 100% seller. Avoid a 'Junk' (sold as-is) unit at $669, a zero-feedback 'mint' listing at about $1,589, and treat the title five sellers share with care.

Heads-up
'Junk' is the Japanese resale term for as-is or faulty, and at $669 it's barely cheaper than a working one; read the fault first.

Media, cables and a case
A used CDJ-2000 usually arrives without the extras. Budget for reliable USB drives or SD cards for your exported library, a LAN cable if you link players, and a case or dust cover if it travels.
